Technique 1

This technique will give us a pretty cool (yet simple) lighting effect. It's called "color burst" a lot, but whatever you choose to call the technique, it gives your image a great look when done right. First, open up your image with Photoshop and make sure your layers window is visible. (If it's not, go to your top toolbar and select: Window > Layers.)

Now that you've done that, look to your layers window and create a new layer by pressing this button:

After that, select the brush tool (or just select the letter "b" on your keyboard). From your brush selecter, pick any brush you feel like using. For this specific lighting effect though, I'm going to use one of the bigger default brushes:

Remember the layer you just created? Simply select that layer by clicking it, and then place your brush whichever way you want:

You should now have two layers, one with your image, and the other with the brush on top of it. Now, we get to make it look cool. Look back to your layers window. There will be a small drop downdown list that says: "normal."

Click that. From that dropdown list select "Screen."

Great! Your image will now have a vibrant and bold look to it thanks to this technique:
