Jason Mraz
By: Austin
Jason Mraz is an unprecedented musician. His music is often categorized as pop or folk, however Mr. A-Z has no problem crossing genre barriers. He somehow manages to blend pop, acoustic, folk, and hip-hop amazingly. In 2003, Jason came out with the hits "The Remedy (I Won't Worry)" and "You and I Both" from his album "Waiting For My Rocket To Come". In 2005, Mraz released "Mr. A-Z", (a play on his name, if you couldn't tell). The first single from this album, "Wordplay," made three Billboard Charts: The Billboard Hot 100, Pop 100, and Hot Digital Songs; being in the better half of most of them. His second single off of this album was the infectious "Geek in the Pink". With a fly hip-hop-like beat in the back and Jason's often soulful voice; you can't help but bop along. In 2007, Jason Mraz is starting off strong. He is releasing the song "The Beauty In Ugly" for the hit, Golden Globe winning show Ugly Betty.
Recommendations:
"Geek in The Pink" - This song seems like it just came from a fun little jam session between friends, but its so catchy. Jason Mraz's "flow" is showcased in this song along with his so what attitude.
"The Beauty In Ugly (Ugly Betty Version)" - Anything that has to do with Ugly Betty gets an A plus in my book. It starts off slow and it tells a good story with an acoustic sound then the Spanish beat jumps in and takes over and Jason adds one more genre to his portfolio.
"Mr. Curiosity" - Jason Mraz starts off soft with just a classical piano in the background and then adds some guitar. This song is one of my all-time favorites, with its introspect and classical bridge.
