Amy Winehouse

Amy burst onto the UK music scene in 2003 with her debut album, 'Frank'. It's loose, jazzy feel earned her a large fan base, but it wasn't until her second album (and US debut) 'Back to Black' was released, coupled with the anthemic lead single 'Rehab', that she really hit the mainstream. "I didn't want to play the jazz thing up too much again. I was bored of complicated chord structures and needed something more direct. I'd been listening to a lot of girl-groups from the fifties and sixties. I liked the simplicity of that stuff. It just gets to the point." says Winehouse. With 'Black to Black' going triple platinum in the UK and a recent Brit Award win (Best British Female Solo Artist), it seems the world is Amy's oyster.

Recommendations:
Rehab– Rehab is one of those songs that everybody knows, yet never gets old. Pure gold. You Know I'm No Good – With an addictive beat, this is modern soul at its best. Check out the version featuring Ghostface Killah too. Back to Black – 'He left no time to regret/Kept his d**k wet' croons Amy in the opening lyrics of this song, with her trademark honesty. The title track song from her second album is a dark, mellow look at a relationship gone wrong. F**k Me Pumps – From her first album 'Frank'; this song casts a cool, critical gaze over the music scene.
