Sum 41 - Underclass Hero

By: Malcom

"Underclass Hero" is to Sum 41, as Blink 182's self-titled album is to Blink 182. "Underclass Hero" displays the maturity Sum 41 has always kept hidden, and with this maturity the group releases their best written and musically composed album in seven years. This CD marks a step in a bold new direction for the group, whose three full length album's, 2001's "All Killer, No Filler", 2002's, "Does this Look Infected" and 2004 "Chuck" have sold over seven-million copies worldwide'. "Underclass Hero" is the latest 14 track CD from Canadian rock group, Sum 41. With three singles already released: "March of the Dogs", "Underclass Hero, and "Walking Disaster," Sum 41 is heading to the top of the US and Canadian Billboard Charts. From beginning to end, "Underclass Hero" displays a strong ability to make an emotionally believable album. Discussing topics such as Deryck Whibley's childhood without his father, politics, and even regret.

Recommendations:
"Best of Me": This song is my favorite track off of the entire album. "Best of Me" seems like a sequel to the song, "With Me". It is, just as "With Me", a slow-paced song, that is more of regret than love.

"With Me": (indescribably good)

"Speak of the Devil": "Try to find a way, getting better every day and I got you now I'm not alone", is how the song starts off. The placement on the album, however, should have been at the end, because it feels like a wrap up of the previous songs.

"Dear Father": While talking to his unknown father, Deryck Whibley manages to pull out a mid-tempo hit.

"Ma Poubelle/My Trashcan": A song that doesn't quite fit the album’s texture but, language aside, feels very awkwardly good. An awkward love song which really has no meaning.
