Motion City Soundtrack - Even If It Kills Me

By: S6 Staff - Sebastian.

Motion City Soundtrack has managed to top themselves again. We last heard from them in 2005 with the release of Commit This to Memory. Even If It Kills Me is a huge step forward since then. Personally, I was actually really impressed with the album. Not only did the album have great artwork like the last, but the music itself was very good. The songs on the album aren't too far from what we've heard from Motion City Soundtrack before, but they added a new spin to it. The album is a mix of catchy vocals and all kinds of different rhythms which vary throughout the album. I also believe that they opened and closed the album perfectly. I've always loved these guys for their originality, and they didn't give up on that with Even If It Kills Me. The song styles vary a little more then they did on Commit This to Memory and I Am the Movie. Motion City Soundtrack mixed in everything from catchy and fun songs to a mellower side which isn't showed as much by the band. All in all, this is a great album and good progress for Motion City Soundtrack. It was one of the most anticipated albums of 2007 and, in my opinion, one of the best.

Recommendations:
"I Fell In Love With You" - Though a little short for my taste, this song is the perfect opener for the album. It gives you a taste of the old Motion City Soundtrack we already knew, along with song enw styles that we haven't heard. Great song.

"Calling All Cops" - One of my favorites so far. Very catchy and it has a nice Transformers reference. When I first listened to the album, this song instantly stuck out, I really like this one.

"Antonia" - I found this song to be a little unusual in the way that it's a bit on the mellow side, yet catchy at the same time. I don't hear this in songs often, so I was rpetty suprised (in a good way!)when I heard in with this song.

"Even If It Kills Me" - I believe it's really hard to pull off title tracks because, in a way, I expect them to represent the album more then the other tracks because it shares the same of the album. This song did a good job of this. One of the biggest highlights from the album. I also thought it was clever to make the closing line "And I'll do whatever it takes, even if it kills me."
