Mae - Destination: Beautiful

By: S6 Staff - Sebastian.
Before Mae, there was Jacob Marshall and Dave Elkins. Two friends from Virginia. The two wrote Mae's first song, "Embers and Envelopes," one day in Jacob's living room. Jacob was actually the one behind the band's name. Jacob developed a hypothesis while attending Old Dominion University. He called the hypothesis Multisensory Aesthetic Experience [or MAE]. The band was formed in 2001, and were later signed onto Tooth & Nail Records. Mae released Destination: Beautiful in 2003 with their first single being what else but "Embers and Envelopes." They later released a second single, "Summertime." Both singles are still successful to this day [as you can see on iTunes and the fact that the band still posts these songs up on their MySpace.] So with this debut under their belt, Mae is surely destined to go far.
Recommendations:
"Embers and Envelopes" - This continues to be one of my favorite Mae songs. It's also cool to think that before Mae was formed, Dave and Jacob were sitting in Jacob's living room writing this song.
"This Time Is the Last Time" - When I hear this song, it always reminds me of some of Mae's newer music. The song itself is quite simple, but one of my favorites on this album.
"Goodbye, Goodnight" - To be honest, there aren't too many songs on Destination: Beautiful thatI can say I really like. I'm a bigger fan of their newer material, but this song really good. Like in every other album, Mae knows how to end an album strong.
