Jojo - Jojo (Self titled debut)

By: Alexis

At first listen it's hard to believe that the person behind the voice is only 13yrs old. Jojo exploded onto the scene with her hit single "Leave Get Out" and was the youngest solo artist to ever have a #1 hit single on the Billboard Charts. She was also the youngest solo artist ever to be nominated for MTV music award. Her voice is simply amazing and she has a range that would make most veteran artists jealous.

The first single on the album is "Leave Get Out" a poppy love ballad about a relationship gone astray. Although the song's theme might seem a little mature for someone Jojo's age to be singing about, there's no doubt that this girl can pull it off. Her second single "Baby It's You" featuring Bow Wow reached 22 on the Billboard Top 100. The final single on the album "Not That Kinda Girl" lets us know that the latest things don’t make a person extraordinary.

This album is awesome start to finish. It's safe to say we can expect some great things from this talented performer.

Recommendations:
"Not That Kinda Girl" - This song is the ultimate girl anthem. Nowadays people tend to get wrapped up in the material things of life, jewelry, the latest in technology, designer clothes, and Jojo lets us know that material things aren't everything. Being real is what's important.

"City Lights" - Although this song wasn't released as a single, it is my favorite on the album. I play this song as I'm getting ready for a night out. With lyrics like "Out on the street, I'm looking for a celebration. Come roll with me, together we can crash the party," bumping in the background I can't help but get pumped up for a night out with my girls.

"Weak" - If the famous girl group SWV did it so well the first time, why remake the song? When I first saw the title on the track listing I had my doubts that it will live up to its original, but Jojo blew me away. She stayed true to soul of song while adding her own style. I don’t know how she does it, but this song will make anyone "weak in the knees" (in a good way of course!)
