Dixie Chicks - Fly

By: S6 Staff - Tom
The Dixie Chicks were originally a five-piece old-fashioned country band in the early 1990s. They had few hits, and were relatively unknown. Now, since they've dropped 3 members and added 1, they have a grand total of 3 great ladies making some awesome music! Most people are surprised when I tell them I like the Dixie Chicks, but they really are great musicians with a great sound. I usually refuse to listen to country, but I wouldn't call the Chicks country. They're on the border of classic rock and mellow. Anyway, Fly is the second album they made after the major change in members.
As far as the album itself goes, I can't find a single song I don't like. There are slow songs, like "Heartbreak Town", there are funny songs, like "Goodbye Earl", and there are unclassifable songs, like "If I Fall, You're Going Down with Me." The tracks are all great, and the sound couldn't be better. The nicest thing about this album, though, is that I guarantee you'll never find another with as much variety that isn't also by the Chicks.
All in all, I'm glad I have this album. It's well worth what I didn't pay for it (it's my mom's. :]).
Recommendations:
"Sin Wagon" - This song is all about how you can live your life on the edge once in a while. Natalie Maines, the lead singer, claims she does a "little mattress dancin' " in the great lyrics of this song.
"Without You" - The slowest song on the album, Without You is a great song about how it's hard to move on without someone that you really care for and love. "Without you, I'm not okay. Without you, I've lost my way" is basically the best way to describe this song.
"Cowboy, Take Me Away" - Ahhh, my favorite song on the album. This is about a girl who wants to break out of her country-roots mold and make a difference in the world, and see the world as it was meant to be seen. A great, inspirational, and genius track.
