Beyonce - B-Day

By: Siobahn J.
Beyonce has had quite the career. She had a long running career with Destiny's Child, released her first solo effort, "Dangerously In Love", and recently kicked off her clothing line called House of Dereon. With all that on her plate, no wonder she only took two weeks to record her sophmore album, "B'day"!
Sadly, that may not have been the best idea. (Not to mention telling everyone she recorded a full length album in 14 days.) Dangerously in Love was one of the most impressive albums of 2003. When comparing my opinions of that one, and B-Day, they greatly differ. There was only one song on Dangerously In Love that I didn't really care for. Unfortunately, I can name five on B-Day. The album isn't very impressive as a whole, and frankly, it sounds like it was written and recorded in two weeks. The one good thing I can honestly say about it, is that her vocals are extremely strong on every song.
Bottom line: Don't make an album in two weeks. Spend time cultivating the sound you want, making the album flow, so that the listener isn't forced to skip tracks.
Recommendations:
"Kitty Kat" - The song immediately starts by getting the point across to her "man". It has a sexy beat, and funny lyrics to accompany the soft voice she is singing in.
"Green Light" - The beat is fast and fun! I love dancing to this song! It's flirty, catchy, and perfect for Beyonce.
"Irreplacable" - Great single, great vocals, great message. This song is an anthem for all women fed up with men who think that they are all that.
